GIESTA
Giesta performs early western notated music and oral traditions of the Iberian Peninsula, transforming and reinventing these repertoires through composition, arranging, improvisation and contemporary techniques. Joana Guiné and Irene Sorozábal use their voices, recorders and traditional percussion as tools to reach modern audiences, creating a bridge between the past and the present.
They are interested in the universal and atemporal aspects contained in the music from the past, and their power to convey meaning in the contemporary world. They base their research in sociocultural and psychological aspects that permeate the music, therefore each program is created around specific aspects of the human experience.
The duo believes in a creative reinterpretation of early music sources with full respect and deep understanding towards the historical context. Being a duo of singers and recorder players, they are interested in exploring the richness of the vulnerability of their instruments.
Giesta has premiered two original programs:

Mulher, quién eres tú, an exploration of the female archetypes of the daughter, virgin, wife and mother.
El camino se hace cantando, exploring music and pilgrimages in the Iberian Peninsula. For this program they invite gambist Xander Baker to collaborate with them.
Giesta has toured in the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, performed in the Oude Muziek Fringe Festival and were selected for IYAP - International Young Artist Presentation 2022, in the festival Laus Polyphoniae in AMUZ-Antwerp.
They are at the moment preparing a new program as an extension of Mulher, quién eres tú, approaching the shadow female archetypes. This new program will be premiered in 2025.
